Te Puia Hut
Federated Mountain Club Executive
Extra tramps
We suggested that we put some additional tramps onto the trip list, as we were not able to do the tramps due to high winds last year.
March 19th – Longivew Hut, Makaretu Hut, Awatere Hut, Moorcock Saddle.
Please let us know if you are interested in any of these tramps, by contacting either Alison Greer or Julia Mackie.
Te Puia Hut
We have been advised by DoC that Te Puia Hut is closed between 21-24th March. The hut roof is being replaced.
Federated Mountain Club Executive
You will know by reading the March Bulletin and a recent mailing to your club that it is that time of year when nominations for FMC Executive are called for.
The Central Region covers a big chunk of tramping country with, substantial DOC investment and a good number of active clubs. At the moment this area is covered on the FMC Executive by Owen Cox & myself, both living on Kapiti Coast. We would really like some support from people in Taranaki, Manawatu/Wanganui and Hawkes Bay.
Robin McNeill – outgoing President – has written in the March Bulletin about what is involved being on the Executive and you can always ring or email one of us to find out more.
Nominations close on 8 April and the only requirement is that you be a member of one of our clubs, are nominated by a member club (any club) and of course agree to the nomination. Remember clubs can nominate people in other clubs !
I urge you to give some thought to this. You might be interested in standing yourself or there could be someone in your club or someone you know in another club.
This year the new election procedure will be used. Every club will be asked to vote instead of giving a delegate vote to the few at the AGM – which only half our clubs ever did. We hope that this will also encourage clubs to take a more active interest in what FMC is doing on their behalf.
It is a democratic procedure and while I have put my name up again I would love to be joined by a few more from around this area – and I wouldn’t complain if I lost my place on Executive to two or three people from this area .
