Kaweka Hut Site, Kaweka FP, Saturday 25 April 2015 Map: BJ37
We headed off in good weather, didn’t get too wet crossing the Tukituki Stream, and climbed up to the Kaweka Hut site. From here, we headed up the old track which was still in reasonably good condition. We did some light track clearing on the way up, and then got into the contorta. This part of the track was quite steep. We left a few markers to help.
At the main ridge, there were two large cairns marking the turn-off. It was a clear, still day and there were good views all round – including Ruapehu.
Unfortunately, one of our group was not able to get all the way to the top so we had to head back down the way we had come, arriving back at the car in plenty of time for the journey home.
