Makahu Saddle to Middle Hill Hut, 11 May 2016
As we drove to the Makahu Saddle car park, there was a lot of dark cloud over the Kawekas. There were 13 on the trip and nine of us left the car park at about 8.45, heading along the track to Kaweka Bivvy for morning tea.
Soon we were on the major downhill; the going was good and not slippery. Then it was a grunt back uphill.
Alison drove the van around to the Middle Hill car park with John, Vic and Peter. She came in from that direction to meet us and we had lunch together in the bush.
There were more ups and downs before we reached Middle Hill Hut and had another break. After leaving the hut, we got some rain spits, but we didn’t need to put our raincoats on. We got back to the van about 3.30. It was a good trip and the weather stayed fine.
