On Wednesdays, summer is cancelled

The walk was damp, even under the trees

Our first Wednesday tramp of the year was to Bell Rock and along to Taraponui, one of my favourites. But the Wednesday weather curse struck again and we were reduced to a two-hour walk around Boundary Stream.

Heavy drizzle and a newly graded gravel road made for an interesting, muddy drive in.

Donning raincoats, we walked the smaller Tumunako loop leading onto the Kamahi loop track. The bush, looking fresh and green, gave us some shelter but we were fairly wet by the time we arrived back at the shelter.

A quick change, an early lunch then we headed home back down the muddy road. At home, it took me more than an hour to clean the mud off the car.

Trampers: Ted Angove, Donna Weston, Barbara Edmead, Jenny Burns, Keith Gore (who took the pictures), Sue Gribble and reporter Alison Greer

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.
