Sunrise Hut Track Closure
Just a heads up Sunrise Hut and Track will be closed from the 8th of Feb to the 5th of April due to a major track upgrade. Surrounding huts in the area will remain open but access will be closed via the Sunrise Track.
Ruapehu 2021

Hi All
This year’s trip to Ruapehu is between the 5th and 11th March. That is 6 nights if you go for the full stay. (in on the 5th out on the morning of the 11th)
We have booked the Havelock Ski Lodge at the top of the Bruce Road, Whangapapa. Have a look at their web site for info.
A major benefit of this Lodge is that we can park right at the door, in the car park.
The cost, yet to be confirmed, will be approx.:
$30.00 per night for accommodation
$15.00 per night for food. (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
Petrol Money for your driver. (suggest $50.00)
At this stage I would like a register of interest, with final confirmed numbers by 13th Feb.
Each person will be asked to buy on all our behalf a list of grocery items that you will be repaid for.
Come for a night, come for the weekend, or come for 6 days. It is optional and flexible. (but no changing once you are committed)
During the stay we will have multiple options of day hikes to meet every one’s needs. Crater Lake, (Mother Nature permitting) Tongariro Crossing, Round the Mountain sections, short walks, long walks etc etc.
You will need all the usual personal gear including sleeping bag and pillow cases, your own tipple, your Tramping gear and, last but not least, some pre dinner snacks to share.

There will be on-going hut restoration work being completed in the Ruahine Forest Park in conjunction with the BCT.
The first lot of restoration work will be done on – Hinerua Hut, A-Frame Hut, Leon Kinvig Hut and Otukota Hut:
Major hut repairs are planned for these huts. The huts will be closed during works (except for emergency shelter). Exact hut closure dates will be confirmed as soon as possible.
If you are planning to use these huts between December 2020 and March 2021, please keep yourself updated about hut availability by checking the DOC website, this forum or by contacting the Manawatu District Office. manawatu@doc.govt.nz
