Tramping and Corona Virus – A message from the NTC President. Posted 23 March 2020.

Hi to All Members
Yesterday’s announcement from the Govt that we are at level 2 on the Virus response scale, has confirmed a lot of my thoughts re the Club and where to from here.
After correspondence with the Committee members on this rapidly changing and worsening situation it has been decided to put the Tramping Club into recess until further notice with immediate effect.
To assist in understanding our rationale to come up with this decision our thinking is that there are two issues here: The Meetings and the Tramping.
The Meetings can be cancelled without too much disruption.
However, the Tramping itself is not so straight forward. EG
1) Over 70’s should stay home, anyone still wanting to go is irresponsible to themselves and the club should not support that.
2) Providing the van when we know that we cannot provide the social distancing of 2M in the van is also irresponsible from the Club. Therefore we should cancel the vans.
3) Tramping itself is okay providing everyone stays in their own 2M space. Is that practical ?
4) So without the over 70s and without a van we are left with private cars and still have the social distancing issue for the driver and passengers. As a responsible Club we believe we should not be facilitating that as unnecessary travel is also on the Level 2 list of things not to do.
If any individual wants to organise a private Tramp then they do so without the Club’s sanction.
On behalf of your committee we are sorry it has come to this but we feel sure we have your support and look forward to business as usual, whenever that will be.
Regards
Kelvin Shaw
President
PS We are unclear about our obligations concerning the holding of an AGM and how we would go about it in these circumstances. We will advise in due course.

Toka Biv – Reno
Thanks to the guys that completed this job over the last few days. The restored biv looks stunning and, especially useful is the new water tank. Hopefully we will hear a bit more about it on Monday at the RUG meeting in Dannevirke. Check out the post on Fb Huts and Tracks page.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.

Enjoy the great outdoors, keep fit and get to know others with similar interests.
