April 2021 News

Mt Hikurangi

This has been on the club programme but somehow the weather has always caused its cancellation. So we are hoping that this Anzac weekend we are lucky.

The hut has been booked (thanks Alison). The tramp details are: Saturday 24 drive to Tokomaru Bay, stay the night in cabins at Tokomaru Holiday Park. $25.00 per person.
Sunday 25 drive 40-45 mins to car park at Pakihiroa. Tramp over private farmland to Hikurangi Hut, 4 hours, have lunch, drop packs then further 2 hours to summit.
Return to hut for the night. $15.00 per person.
Monday 26 return to car park and drive home.

Maximum people 12. The hut only sleeps 10 but there’s probably room on the floor, and it makes the car numbers easier.

Petrol money to be confirmed. It is a 5hr drive.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.
