Club Meeting Speaker Changes
May 19th – Lisa Whittle, Mauri Oho Project, Ruahine Forest Park

Our donations to Mauri Oho
Tuesday 5 April 2022, Mauri Oho HQ, Onga Onga

Lisa Whittle had asked for donations of tramping equipment for the Mauri Oho project. This is a Northern Ruahine Biodiversity Recovery Project which receives some funding from the Mahi Mo Te Taiao (Jobs for Nature) Programme.

Their HQ is the former DoC Field Office in Onga Onga.

Julia and Lisa, surrounded by some of our donations

Club members kindly donated equipment ranging from tramping boots, tents, clothing, to weekend and day backpacks, and we delivered it to Onga Onga on 5 April.

Lisa says ‘Thank you to NTC for the gear. It came in handy just this afternoon when we appointed a young recruit who needed gear and a day pack ready to start working next Monday, perfect timing.’

If any club members wish to continue donating, Julia is happy to collect and pass on to Mauri Oho. Lisa was scheduled to speak at a March club meeting which was cancelled due to Covid. She will be re-scheduled to speak later in the year.

Studholme Hut and Bivvy are moving

We have some hut/bivvy moves occurring in the Kaweka Forest Park.

Studholme Bivvy will be relocated to NZTM E1891448 N5652516 to highpoint 1379m. This was scheduled to take place on 16 March 2022. Studholme Hut will be relocated to the previous Studholme Bivvy site at NZTM E1890017 N5643903 18 March 2022. However due to the rain we had in March this got put back. The bivvy has been moved, and Studholme Hut move will take place this week, we hope.

The day prior, the huts will be under construction and potentially unable to be used for accommodation.

The first club member to send in photos of the huts in their new location wins a Whittakers bar of chocolate.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.

Interested in joining us?

Enjoy the great outdoors, keep fit and get to know others with similar interests.
