Ruahine FP, Track and Hut Maintenance (Posted 22 May)
Kia Ora RUG,
Currently we have Track Cutters completing track maintenance in the Northern sectors of the Ruahine Forest Park. The work is expected to take 2-4 weeks in ideal conditions, starting with the Ngamoko Range and Yeomans track through to Golden Crown and the track network associated with this area including the Aranga hut tracks. Once completed they will continue with the Iron Bark to Waiokotore via Ohutu ridge track all the way through to Waiokotore campsite to Te Potae TK.

There are number of smaller tracks that we will be cutting in this areas as well.

Sunrise hut is undergoing some routine maintenance work.

The hut is receiving a full interior polyurethane, graffiti removal, Wardens heating install, site work, firewood replenish and a general tidy up of the hut interior.

Due to the type of work being undertaken inside Sunrise hut, it will need to be closed from 21st May to 10th June 2020.

Shelter from the storm will be provided.

Longview and Rangiwahia Huts
Maintenance work is plotted for Longview and Rangiwahia Huts. They will both be required to be closed for a period while this work is being undertaken.

Longview hut is estimated to be 11th – 18th June. Work includes: Interior paint, firewood replenishment, site work and general hut maintenance work.

Rangiwahia hut is estimated to be 18th – 25th June. Work includes door replacement on the North wall, firewood replenishment, deck repairs, general hut maintenance and site work.

Due to the dates being dependant on weather, I will keep us all updated on this post. Thanks for your patience. If you have any questions, feel free to give me a call.

Ruahine FP, Kashmir Road (13 May 2020)
Works to repair Kashmir Road may begin from Friday 15 May 2020. Travellers to road-ends associated with Kashmir Road should expect delays. The works are expected to be completed by 19 June 2020.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.
