May 2022 News

NTC AGM 5 May 2022
At the meeting, the following committee officers were elected:
President – Di Reid
Club Captain – Sue Martin
Treasurer – Juliet Gillick (ex-committee)
Secretary – Geoff Donkin

Committee:
Marie Deroles
Doug Matheson
Bruce Hodgson
Johanne Karlsson

John Dobbs stood down from his role as Treasurer, after 30 years’ service in various roles. A vote of thanks was expressed for his contributions.

The club membership fees are to remain almost as they are:  $45 per person, $55 family membership, but it was agreed to offer a special deal for active couples/members.

Previously, a couples/family sub of $55 only included one $15 FMC sub, so they only received one magazine and one discount card. This made it difficult if more than one person was an active tramper and perhaps wanted their own discount card (to buy a discounted annual hut pass, for example). To get around this, they would have had to pay two individual subs, totalling $90.

So we approved a special couples/family payment of $70, enabling them to now receive two magazines and two discount cards by the club paying $30 to FMC.

This is a saving of $20 to the couple/family with the added benefit of all that the second discount card offers.

Mauri Oho

Lisa Whittle had asked for donations of tramping equipment for the Mauri Oho project. This is a Northern Ruahine Biodiversity Recovery Project which receives some funding from the Mahi Mo Te Taiao (Jobs for Nature) Programme.

Studholme Hut and Bivvy are moving

Two huts are going to be relocated:

Studholme Saddle Bivvy has now been relocated to NZTM E1892383 N5652741 east of highpoint 1379m

North Whetu Biv now in place

Studholme Saddle Hut will soon be relocated to the previous Studholme Bivvy site at NZTM E1890017 N5643903

The move for Studholme Saddle Hut will occur in the next few months. DoC is working with the community group to establish the best time for this to occur.

The piles for the transfer of Studholme Hut to the Bivvy location are already in place.

The dates of this operation may change. For up to date information, contact the Napier DoC Office on +64 6 834 3111.

The day prior, the huts will be under construction and potentially unable to be used for accommodation.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.

Enjoy the great outdoors, keep fit and get to know others with similar interests.
