Lakes car park, Rogue Ridge turn-off, Kaiarahi Stream, Mackintosh Hut, Kaweka FP, Saturday 3 June 2023
It was a beautiful sunrise with the promise of a lovely day ahead. We all looked forward to getting to the tops of the Kaweka range but, as we travelled along the Taihape Road, it was obvious the wind was getting up, and by the time we reached the Rogue Ridge turn-off, all thoughts of tops travelling were abandoned.
So it was a repeat of the lower Kaiarahi circuit again. The wind was actually pretty cold, but the constant up and downs of the circuit kept us warm, and we even managed to sit in the sun for our lunch at Mackintosh Hut.
On the final climb of the day back to the Mackintosh car park, we met Hilary on her way for an overnight in Mackintosh. She would have had company as there was gear in the hut belonging to people whom we guessed would be there for the night.
Campbell and Julian went to get the other vehicle from Lakes car park and we were soon on our way back to sunny Napier.
