Ten of us climbed to the top of Kaweka J. The views were not great as it was overcast with lots of cloud about. Morning tea was at Dominie Bivvy and lunch was back at the Makahu Hut at the end of our trip.
It took a bit of sweat to reach the top. Alison says the first half is the toughest, but I’m not so sure about that. The second half is not really much easier. There was a patch of snow near the crest; enough for Amy to build a wee snowman. She said it was definitely a snowman, not a snowwoman or snowperson. We were up and down by noon and had our lunch inside Makahu Hut; and then it started to rain as we climbed into the vehicles.Trampers: Amy Hutchinson, John Stairmand, Alison Greer, Jenny Burns, Geoff Donkin , Simon Hill, John Dobbs, John Russell, Juliet Gillick and reporter Hilary Heath-Caldwell.
