Trip Planning Meetings
Planning meetings for the tramp list January to June 2021 are set for Monday 9 November at 7.00pm for Saturday and weekend tramps and Tuesday 10 November at 12.30pm for Wednesday tramps. All will take place at Alison Greer’s home. If you are unable to attend but have some ideas, please email Alison or discuss with a member of the committee.

Ruahine User Group
You can download the notes from the July 2020 meeting (only just released) RUG Minutes July 2020. There is another meeting scheduled for 19 October, in Dannevirke. Julia Mackie will represent NTC.

Ruahine Whio Protection Trust
Here is a great idea for a Christmas present or to hang on your own wall – Ruahine Whio Protection Trust has produced this beautiful “2021 Wild Ruahine” calendar as a fundraiser – all funds raised go towards helping protect the Ruahine whio.

A great Christmas present

Thanks to those who donated the photos and to Anthony Behrens (www.swampthing.co.nz) for the design work. Orders will be taken at the RUG meeting in Dannevirke this coming Monday. If there are tramping or hunting club representatives who think they could promote/sell some of these to their members on behalf, then please get in touch. Calendars are also available at Bivouac stores in Palmerston North and Wellington and through the RWP facebook page or by emailing Janet at jwilson@inspire.net.nz.

Cost is $20 each. Can courier to you for an extra $6.50.

An update about your online tramp booking system

The club’s online tramp registration system is popular! It worked from day 1, and we had a surprising amount of positive feedback and good ideas for developing it. We’re improving it as we go along – including some changes that will provide you with background to your tramp, and up-to-date information about transport arrangements and weather.

This booking system allows you to reserve your place on any trip without needing to make a phone call, send a txt message or do paperwork at club meetings.

To access it, you must have a Google account, and the Google Sheets app on your device.

Getting a Google account is easy and free – and you don’t need to have a Gmail email address. Just click here to set up yours.

Then go to the Tramp List (Meetings and Events), pick your tramp, key in your name, and we take care of the rest!

  • We’ve added a new feature to the booking system. You can get DoC information about a destination hut, such as its history and facilities (and, sometimes, charges) by hovering your cursor on the hut name if it’s highlighted on the booking sheet – that link will usually show in light blue and is underlined.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.

Interested in joining us?

Enjoy the great outdoors, keep fit and get to know others with similar interests.
