Sparrowhawk Bivouac
The Backcountry Trust will be approving funding for the ongoing maintenace required at the biv. Rob Brown, Manager of the Trust will be working this with DoC, but he is expecting that we will provide the manpower. This work will be carried out in February 2020. Julia Mackie will be coordinating this effort to help save the biv, so please contact her if you would like to help. Any NTC club members or other interested persons please contact her on julia@napiertrampingclub.org.nz

Sparrowhawk Biv, nestled into the bush

Rob Brown confirms that this is still on. See his reply below to my request for an update on 15th November.

Yes they are. At the moment I am thinking February. I’ve got to do a bit of planning over the next week for early next year but at the moment I’m thinking I will come to the north island for 3 weeks to work on these three biv projects with local groups.

Will give you more details in the next 2-3 weeks.

Cheers, Rob

About us

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.

Enjoy the great outdoors, keep fit and get to know others with similar interests.
