December 2024 News

December 3, 2024 by Brian Mackie Leave a Comment

Upcoming events:

Wilding Pine update

Graham Leech is planning a final outing for 2024. It will be on Monday 16 December.  Giles and Alan will be in charge.  The current plan is to revisit Comet. If you’d like to take part, please let Graham know (graham.leech@afoot.co.nz). Usual logistics apply: meet at Omahu/Fernill at 8am.

Where we’re headed in 2025

The first six-months’ trips have been planned, and you can take a look by heading over to the updated Tramp List. New users can also use the list to discover the club’s automated booking system, just by clicking on any destination.

The Bushbasher Archive’s online

From 2008 until mid-2012, we produced The Bushbasher, an A4 colour magazine that replaced black and white club newsletters. Published two or three times a year, it was an often amusing record of our tramping adventures.

The magazine ceased publication in July 2012, overtaken by technology. Our website provided a faster and more cost-effective way of keeping members in touch with club happenings.

But those old printed magazines are still entertaining, so we’ve put them here on the website for all to enjoy. Plus, there’s a copy of our celebratory 50th anniversary edition, which features a selection of highlights since the club was founded in 1974. You can find them under the History tab.

From FMC Love our Huts:

Kia ora – here’s an update on the FMC Love Our Huts Fact Sheet OCT 3. We’ve had a fantastic response with 317 huts already registered. It’s really capturing people’s attention, with media, DoC and the wider public all engaged. We’d love to have even more huts receiving some love this November, and we thought to reach out to our clubs and supporters in the hope you in turn might make contact with people you know who are passionate about the outdoors, and who might want to also get involved. There are around 600 huts still to be registered.

Here is the list of those available nationwide. Love Our Huts LIST OF AVAILABLE HUTS 3 Oct

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.
