Galbraith Hut-Maungaharuru Range-Taraponui, Saturday 7 May 2016 Banner Photo: Walking the farm track to historic Galbraith Hut We left the car park earlier than usual, mainly because many of us had been woken by a ship’s continuous foghorn as early as 4am. As we travelled out of Napier, less fog was present. In fact, it… [Read More]

An historic hut, with a princess in residence

The historic Galbraith Hut

Galbraith Hut – Taraponui, May 23 2012 We arrived on a beautiful clear, frosty and calm morning, with lifting heavy fog blanketing the Mohaka Valley. A very cold start had the group quickly readied for the day and setting off up the farm track. After 60 minutes more spent steadily climbing up the foothills and… [Read More]

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.

Interested in joining us?

Enjoy the great outdoors, keep fit and get to know others with similar interests.
