NTC Resolution on DoC Operational Proposed Changes
I attach the email that has been sent to Lou Sanson and Maggie Barry ref. the club’s resolution at our meeting on Thursday 22 September, 2016. ntc-resolution-onga-onga

And Lou Sanson’s immediate reply, well done Lou.

Hi Kelvin
Thank you for writing to me concerning the closure of OngaOnga Field base and your views on how we manage Boundary Stream.
Could I encourage you to meet with our local Ops Manager Dave Carlton. He is very good in our opinion and there will be some logic behind what he is doing here. It is important that you understand his rationale before we escalate this issue.
If you are still I unsatisfied please feel free to contact me.
Cheers
Lou

Lou Sanson
Director-General
Department of Conservation

Footnote: We will be inviting Dave Carlton to speak to the NTC early in 2017. Hopefully this will not be too late. We will keep club members posted on this development via this News Page.

Trip List Changes
Due to the weather during July, many tracks have suffered snow and wind damage. The weekend trip in September into Whirinaki FP will be changed as this area was one of the worst hit by the storm. Your ideas of an alternate day/weekend trip are welcome.

Ruahine User Group Update
There is a RUG meeting on Monday, September 26 at the Dannevirke Deerstalkers rooms. Please chat with Julia if you would like to attend. I attach the meeting agenda. september-rug-meeting2016-agenda

Kapiti Island
Club members have indicated that they would like to go on this club trip. It is being coordinated by Sue Martin, and she will be liaising with those who wished to go.The proposed itinerary:-
· The plan is to travel to Wellington late Thursday afternoon (private or hired van)
· Go to Kapiti Island Friday (HB anniversary day, work day for Wellington)
· Postponement day for Kapiti or variety of tramps organised locally or do your own thing
· Travel back to HB on Monday. Some may wish to travel back on Sunday, and this can be accommodated with the Paekakariki Motor Camp, as long as Sue is advised.

About us

We are a group of like-minded people who love the great outdoors. We tramp mostly in the Hawke’s Bay province, in remote areas such as the Kaweka and Ruahine Ranges; but we also travel longer distances to new places, for longer walks.

The Napier Tramping Club was established in 1974 and has about 70 members. We belong to the Federated Mountain Clubs of NZ Inc (FMC) and run Saturday, full-weekend and Wednesday tramps, every fortnight.
